Features of the CraftMaster Green Door

Sustainable Materials

CraftMaster molded door designs, used to make CraftMaster Green Doors, are made from wood that is of no commercial timber value and is the byproduct of other operations, not old growth timber.

Wood Sources

Sawmill chips: generated as residual waste from sawmill operations.

Field chips: residuals from field chipping operations of tree tops and leftover wood. If it is not used in manufacturing operations, it rots or is sent to landfills. The removal of this wood source allows mature trees to grow. Field chips are a byproduct of sound logging practices.

All wood comes from an area within a 200 mile radius of Towanda, PA.

JELD-WEN uses 100% northern hardwood which includes maple, beech, oak and other species.

Recycled Content

Hollow core CraftMaster Green Doors contain a minimum of 56% pre-consumer recycled wood content.

Solid core CraftMaster Green Doors contain a minimum of 70% pre-consumer recycled wood content.

CraftMaster molded door designs contain a minimum of 70% pre-consumer recycled wood content. This is certified by Scientific Certification Systems, certificate number SCS-MC-01801.

CARB Compliant

CraftMaster molded door designs (facings) are acknowledged by the California Air Resources Board's (CARB) Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM) 93120 to utilize exempt status ultra-low emitting formaldehyde (ULEF) resins.

No Added Urea Formaldehyde

CraftMaster molded door designs have no added urea formaldehyde. This is certified by Scientific Certification Systems under certificate number SCS-MC-01802. They are manufactured with environmentally preferable phenolic resins. In addition, CraftMaster Green Doors contain no added urea formaldehyde.

Through repeated testing by the Composite Panel Association (CPA), CraftMaster molded door designs have demonstrated formaldehyde emissions equivalent to background levels found in the environment.

Low VOC Primer and Adhesives

CraftMaster products are primed with a low VOC primer. This primer is among the most environmentally preferable of all coatings available.

The adhesives used in CraftMaster Green Doors have ultra low VOC emissions.

GreenLite Core Features

Sustainable core provides the heft, weight and sound-deadening properties of a solid wood door.

Made using wood obtained from forestlands that are certified by Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®).

Contains pre-consumer recycled content.

Produces very low formaldehyde and VOC emissions (exceeds CARB standards).

LEED® 2009 for Commercial Interiors Credits Description

Recycled Content

MR 4

Use materials, including furniture and furnishings, with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus 1/2 of the pre-consumer content constitutes at least 10% or 20% based on the total value of the materials in the project. The minimum percentage materials recycled for each point threshold is as follows: 1 point for 10% recycled content and 2 points for 20% recycled content.

Regional Materials1

MR 5

Option 1 (1 Point): Use a minimum of 20% of the combined value of construction and Division 12 (furniture) materials and products that are manufactured regionally within a radius of 500 miles.

Option 2 (2 Points): Meet the requirements of Option 1 and use a minimum of 10% of the combined value of construction and Division 12 (furniture) materials and products extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500 miles of the project.

Low-Emitting Materials Composite Wood and Agrifiber Products

IEQ 4.4

Composite wood and agrifiber products used on the interior of the building (i.e. inside the weatherproofing system) must contain no added urea formaldehyde resins.

Recycled Content

MR 4

Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus 1/2 of the pre-consumer content constitutes at least 10% or 20%, based on cost, of the total value of the materials in the project. The minimum percentage materials recycled for each point threshold is as follows: 1 point for 10% recycled content and 2 points for 20% recycled content.

Regional Materials1

MR 5

Use building materials or products that have been extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500 miles of the project site for a minimum of 10% or 20%, based on cost, of the total materials value. If only a fraction of a product or material is extracted, harvested, or recovered and manufactured locally, then only that percentage (by weight) can contribute to the regional value. The minimum percentage regional materials for each point threshold is as follows: 1 point for 10% regional materials and 2 points for 20% regional materials.

Low-Emitting Materials Composite Wood and Agrifiber Products

IEQ 4.4

Composite wood and agrifiber products used on the interior of the building (i.e. inside the weatherproofing system) must contain no added urea formaldehyde resins.

Products

MR 2.2

Use building component materials that meet the following criteria:
a) Environmentally preferable products meet the specifications listed in Table 24 of LEED for Homes Rating System, includes: for doors (not including garage or insulated doors) contain recycled content, are FSC-certified or reclaimed
AND/OR
b) Local production1 - use products that were extracted, processed, and manufactured within 500 miles of the home.
